INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

November 28, 2011

Dear Crest Ridge Families,

We are gearing up for winter weather and want to get information out to you so we are all prepared for inclement weather.  Crest Ridge is implementing a new opportunity this school year.  The new option will be a two (2) hour delay.  This means that school will begin exactly two (2) hours later.  The elementary school would begin at 10:15 a.m. and the secondary would begin at 10:10 a.m. By implementing the 2 hour delay, we are in hopes to not use entire snow days if there is a possibility of roads and weather clearing within those two hours.  Also, it will help with students standing in frigid temperatures early in the mornings.  This delay allows daylight to assist in safer transportation for busses, staff, and student drivers.  This delayed start will allow the street/road/highway crews time to clear roads and apply salt, sand, etc.  If your student is a bus rider and is currently picked up at 6:30, they would be picked up two hours later at 8:30. The entire morning is moved two hours later.  School would still end at regular afternoon dismissal time.

At this time, there are three options for school closings for the Crest Ridge R VII School District:

  •  Option 1 - Two Hour Delayed Start

If inclement weather (snow, ice, etc.) is nearing an end, the District may choose to have a two-hour delayed start.  School will begin exactly two (2) hours later than normal starting time.  School will be dismissed at the normal dismissal time.   If we use this option, the schools will not be open for student drop off at the regular time.  They will open two hours later.  Buses would run their regular routes, exactly two (2) hours later.

  • Option 2 - Cancellation

If the inclement weather entails extreme conditions (wind chill, excessive snow or ice, etc.) school will be cancelled.

  •  Option 3 – Early Dismissal

If the inclement weather moves in during the school day and we believe it would be in the best interest of safety for our students and staff to dismiss early, we will do so.  This is usually two (2) hours early but that could change due to the situation.

The district will try to make the determination to have a delayed start or cancel school no later than 6:00 AM.
