At Crest Ridge Elementary, I am dedicated to creating and upholding a quality Physical Education program. As stated in the Missouri DESE text, “Physical Education…can play an important role in improving the quality of life [for student]”. This excerpt explains why it is vital to have a quality physical education program. In order to have a quality program, I am working to make sure that my program includes many important components. These components will only help to facilitate learning, create enjoyment, while challenging students in the Physical Education class. I strive to make the following components part of my classes.
ü Constant promotion of physical activity & healthy lifestyles: Students should always be reminded of the reasons that they are participating in Physical Education. Students should know why physical activity is important and what the consequences are for not leading a healthy lifestyle.
ü Variety of instruction: Students are presented with a wide array of material that allows them to develop social, physical, and mental skills.
ü Developmentally appropriate material: Students are presented with developmentally appropriate material that allows them to progress through skill development in a logical, sequential manner.
ü Emphasis on cognitive & affective domains: While my Physical Education program often includes elements of the psychomotor domain, my Physical Education program also emphasizes the cognitive and affective domains. These domains include knowing why physical activity is important, knowing fitness components, showing respect for others, and valuing physical activity.
